Illegal commercial hoardings disfiguring Jaipur core heritage zone — JMC inactive

UNESCO-recognised Jaipur Walled City heritage zone regulations prohibit commercial hoardings larger than 2 sq ft on heritage-listed structures. A February 2026 survey documents 47 non-compliant hoardings on 12 Bazaar streets. JMC has the authority to remove them but has not issued notices. Annual hoarding licence revenue is believed to deter enforcement. UNESCO's World Heritage Committee had flagged this concern in its 2023 state-of-conservation report.
