Reported 24 April 2026
Despite receiving over 11,000 mm of annual rainfall, Sohra (Cherrapunji) faces acute drinking water shortage from November to May each year. Rainwater harvesting infrastructure has decayed. The local PHE pipeline is functional for only 4–5 hours per day. A comprehensive rainwater harvesting revival project was sanctioned in 2022 under AMRUT 2.0 but work has not commenced. Residents travel 4–5 km to fetch water in dry months.
