Reported 24 April 2026
The 10-day Hornbill Festival at Kisama Heritage Village attracts 250,000+ visitors and generates an estimated 40–50 tonnes of waste per day. Segregation bins were introduced in 2023 but compliance is under 20% based on spot checks. Waste is transported to the Dimapur landfill without processing. A model "zero-waste festival" framework exists (Sunburn, Rann Utsav references) but has not been adopted. The Nagaland Tourism Dept has budget flexibility under Swadesh Darshan 2.0.
