A 20 km² experimental township founded in 1968 with a charter under UNESCO recognition. About 3,300 residents from 60+ countries plus the surrounding Tamil villages of Kuilapalayam, Edayanchavadi, and Kottakarai. The civic mosaic spans Auroville’s own zonal infrastructure, TN panchayat services, and Puducherry administration along the eastern edge.
